Well i finally did it. Replaced the oil trap and cleaned things up in the pcv system. The hoses were all fine so i just cleaned them with mild degreaser and flushed them out. Also upgraded the hardware on all of the elbows and hose ends. Entire job took about 5 hours and required several tools and awkward methods for removal and reinstall. I'll try to detail them as much as i can. I didn't take pictures of the entire procedure, simply because much of the removal is dependent how much room you need to work. I like a lot of room to work because my hands are so damn big so i removed as much as i could.

First, the new parts i used in the install.
oil trap volvo part number 1271988
intake manifold gasket volvo part number 1366787
throttle body gasket volvo part number 9146210
lower channel return hose part number 8653339

there are several other hoses and elbows that could go along, but mine didn't need replacement.

Here are my parts

to remove the manifold and accesories surrounding i suggest having access to several sizes of standard and metric sockets, with an extra long extension and swivel attachments. I also used silicone tape to wrap the socket with so that lower manifold bolts didn't fall when trying to replace them. Also have a magnetic pickup tool handy because you will drop bolts and sockets i promise. Also be ready to drain some coolant and remove the upper radiator hose and thermostat for some more clearance.

Once the throttle body, vac lines, intake tube, battery and tray, fuel rail cover, plug cover, fuel pressure regulator (leak system first using the valve stem on the rail), and all brackets are removed. Proceed to the manifold bolts.

Remove upper pcv line entering the top of the cam cover. After this you'll have to snake it between the injector harness and manifold to get the manifold out.

And just when you think the manifold is free, it's not. There are coolant lines running a loop in and out of the manifold, as well as a vent line going to the oil trap. To make things easier, i just cut these lines and replaced them with new lines and clamps during the reinstall process.

old oil trap held on with weak volvo clamps, after removing the two 10mm bolts securing it i literally pulled the thing right off.

replaced old lower channel return with new shiny one. While the trap is off, it's also a good idea to swab down the channels entering the engine, just make sure you don't push a lot of it back in. I just scrapped them with my finger and then wiped clean with a shop towel.

next, go ahead and clean up the old hoses and elbows you've removed. I used a mild degreaser and rinsed with hot water. Then blew them out with an air compressor. Lots of little chunky things came out. Then reassemble some of the hoses and elbows and prepare to reinstall the trap.
Here it is ready to go back in

reinstall took some long extensions and a swivel

here is a closeup of the better hardware i'm talking about. Much more secure than oem desing.

When installing the manifold and new gasket, make sure you bolt the lower bolts with gasket in place first. The lower manifold bolt holes also have a notch to drop straight down onto the bolts, then bolt the top.

And when you're done, post a pic of your clean engine bay with a fresh oil trap:D Very Happy
